I have occasionally purchased organic clothing for my kids, and to be honest, the main reason I purchased them was because I liked the way the organic fabric felt. Have you ever noticed how much softer and more natural organic cotton feels? I loved it. Also I felt like a better mom because it was “organic”and therefore good for them. But I never really looked into what organic meant in regards to clothing. Sure we know the benefits of organic food, and organic body products, but I never really tried to educate myself on the benefits of organic clothing. Until now.
FYI, clothing made from organic cotton does not contain any harmful chemicals such as pesticides, insecticides, fertilizers, and GMO that are commonly linked to the growth process for conventional cotton. These chemicals can be harmful to the farmers, environment, producers, and consumers. Also, conventional cotton production consumes the most water among agricultural crops. Regular cotton is also typically grown on the same soil over and over again, which results in poor soil quality and loss of nutrients.
On the other hand, organic cotton is environmentally friendly, and the growth process undergoes regulated safety standards. There are no harmful chemicals used resulting in less allergy and skin concerns. It is also cheaper to produce, and uses much less water to grow since organic cotton growers typically utilize rain far more than irrigation.
